Welcome to the Gallery
I take photos for fun and that's reflected in the quality of the photos you're going to find in here. I've had no training, have no qualifications and no talent. I just enjoy it and aspire to be better.
To start with there is only the one collection. Over time I intend to scan and release more.... but don't count on it.
The Camera
Since I'm a programmer and a bit of a geek you're probably thinking that I have a digital camera? Nope. The idea doesn't appeal to me at all. I'm sure there are some very good digital cameras out there but they just aren't for me. Here are a few reasons why:
- Money. A decent one like the Canon EOS 300D would set me back about £700. I could (and did) get a really good film SLR for about £300 leaving me £400 to spend on the myriad other toys I NEED in my life.
- Because. All the people I know who have digital cameras take hundreds of pointless, meaningless photos of things like their feet. When you have a film camera every shot becomes more important because to the finality of realesing the shutter.
- If you can delete the photo you've just taken and re-take it again there's no pressure on you to get it right first time and no excitment wondering if you've just taken your best ever photo. I get that from a film camera.
I use a EOS 300V with a standard EF 28-80mm lens and a variety of filters. When I'm rich I'll be buying an EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM.
Bali
October 2004
The first holiday Aileen an I went on since I've had my new camera. We visited Bali and Kuala Lumpur for three weeks. 8 Rolls of film were the result.
